Climate Action Plans Across The Country

Folks, we need to take action – and we need to be quick about it. Every day brings new warnings from scientists as the temperature is rising faster than predicted, and the reductions in CO2 emissions are slow in coming. The countries involved in the Paris accord pledged to do keep temperature rise under 2 degrees C, and aspired to keep it under a 1.5 degree rise.

Pledges are voluntary and even if fully implemented will still cause an unacceptable rise of greater than 3 degrees, therefore the ambition in the climate plans must be greatly increased, and serious cuts in emissions must start asap.

People are taking action, and governments are preparing plans. It’s very important for us to keep talking with our members of parliament, and to push for local climate action plans as well. In Toronto the City’s Transform TO report, for a 30% cut in emissions by 2020, comes to city council in November for a vote in December. Cities account for as much as 75% of emissions therefore city action plans are vitally important.
