EARTH DAY EDITION!
Today is Earth Day! Founded in 1970 Earth Day organizing ushered in decades of progress in environmental legislation and increased awareness of how dependent and interconnected we are with the life systems of the planet. However increased consumption of finite resources coupled with a relentless drive for profits has reversed that progress. The fossil fuel industries are fighting to keep their profits – and meanwhile the Earth is suffering. What’s very exciting is that we can change this!

Delivery of Letter to Prime Minister Harper
Today Climate Fasters delivered a message from 35 civil society organizations calling for climate action from our government. You can see the letter delivered to PM Harper here. The return address reads “The people of Canada”.
Please send your own letter to your MP – make this your Earth Day action, today.
We also met with senators and members of parliament and we delivered YOUR message – that we want action now. We now have 15 senators and more than 129 MPs who have pledged to act on climate.
This is the most important year in human history – 2015 – because this is the year we change everything. This year the tide must turn in a massive, unstoppable shift toward renewables and conservation!
To change everything, we need everyone.

New partnership! ClimateFast and Step Up Canada!
Step Up Canada is a new initiative of Toronto 350 and the Peoples Climate Movement and ClimateFast is participating!
Step Up Canada is training speakers and making them available in your community, church group, school – everywhere that we can reach out! A 30 minute powerpoint presentation followed by discussion will inform those present the basic facts of the climate crisis together with where Canada’s political parties stand on the policy questions that will determine whether we successfully transition renewable or continue on an unsustainable path.

Yeb Sano Joins Peoples Climate Movement – Our Voices
Today, Earth Day, Yeb Saño has resigned as Philippines Climate Commissioner to join Our Voices, a global faith based climate campaign. In Warsaw, Yeb's fast inspired this movement - and he's been part of it since. And, in Lima, we stood again in solidarity with Yeb and the Philippines people - though he could not be with us at the talks. I have been constantly impressed by Yeb's humble power. It has been an honour to stand alongside him. I am super excited that he is fasting for the climate today as he makes this announcement. Yeb is fasting today alongside many of you!
