Dear friends of climate action!

TODAY is a very important day at Queen’s Park. The bill to end cap and trade –without any
replacement plan for climate action – is in 2nd reading and the bill to cut Toronto City Council in half – in the middle of an election already underway – is also in 2nd reading in the House.

TODAY the conservative caucus is meeting (this afternoon).

URGENT ACTION – when you get this please do two things:

First: Sign petition by LeadNow to go to Conservative MPPs in Toronto TODAY.
https://act.leadnow.ca/defend-Toronto/

Second: Ask family and friends in Conservative held ridings to contact their MPP. If you have a moment to look up the phone and email info for their member make it super easy and send that.
Call or text them so they can know that there’s an urgent email for them. It may not seem an
obvious connection but we know that cutting Toronto Council would make it harder to get
climate action or action on any progressive concerns. Let’s do our best to stop this.

Third: Doug Ford is going to spend $30 million of taxpayers money to stop cap-and-trade in Ontario, protecting the biggest polluters from paying for their emissions. Sign this petition:
Tell Doug Ford to drop the useless cap-and-trade lawsuit.

Dear...
The conservative caucus is meeting this afternoon about their bill, in 2nd reading today, to cut Toronto's City Council in half. Don't let them do it!
If you get this message and have a moment this morning or early afternoon, please call your
MPP and say you are opposed to the cuts to Toronto city council - that it's undemocratic. This election is already underway (started May 1st) and they need to hear that their constituents don't like it. If they can do this to Toronto they can unilaterally do anything they want to any municipality in Ontario. Right now the future of Toronto’s democracy is at stake. Please take a minute or two to support us!

Canvassing is planned for Scarborough Centre at the 'RibFest' sometime August 3 to 6th.  Rosemary would like to hear from people who would like to canvass which is the best date for you - rosemary@climatefast.ca

These are ridings that were won by a small margin and they are therefore ideal for putting pressure on those MPPs.

OUR THANKS to ClimateFast members Rosemary Boissonneau and Sharon Howarth who went to Q. Park yesterday with t-shirts saying ‘47’ on them. Rosemary was interviewed liv on CP24 and other media. If you are able to go down to Q. Park this afternoon the House will be sitting at 3 pm for 2nd reading on both bills.

If you would like to received action updates please email: lyn@climatefast.ca. We usually email this list only once a month. Right now is a critical moment at both Q. Park and the City, that’s the reason for this extra email to our list.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU ARE DOING! WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
