As a resident of Ward _______, I would like to thank you for voting to adopt TransformTO, Toronto’s climate action plan, during July’s Council meeting. Your vote demonstrates that you recognize that there is an urgent need to confront climate change and that TransformTO is an effective, integrated plan that will reduce GHG emissions 80% by 2050 while creating many significant economic and social co-benefits.
I am writing you today to urge you to champion the implementation of this plan by ensuring that it is fully funded in the City’s 2018 budget. The numerous components of TransformTO are designed to act as an integral whole, and its emission reduction targets can only be achieved if Council commits to investing completely in all aspects of the plan in the upcoming budget. The needed investment of $2.5 million is miniscule when compared to the formidable cost of inaction. Moreover, each dollar invested will return 14 dollars to Toronto in the form of job creation, economic development and reduced energy costs.
