2019 CLIMATE ELECTION - LET’S BUILD ON THIS! What are the next steps?

Congratulations and thanks to all of you – Whether you volunteered on a campaign, helped a climate champion by phoning or knocking on doors, or just showed up to vote - we’ve won this round!

Two-thirds of all voters voted for climate action, and with a minority government in place the opportunity is there to push for greater ambition and bold programs.

While the election did not bring us everything we might have hoped for – it has brought us a government that we can push to cooperate for the climate.

To make this happen we need to get our voices heard: ClimateFast signed a shared letter with 35 climate groups that was printed in the Hill Times today. (see below).

We urge you also to sign an online petition urging the parties to Cooperate for the Climate:

LeadNow - https://act.leadnow.ca/minority/

And this one from David Suzuki Foundation: https://davidsuzuki.org/action/unite-for-climate-action/

Please share on Twitter and FB and spread the word so we have tens of thousands of signatures in advance of a press conference next week. The time to influence the government’s agenda is now!

PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION NEEDED

This election demonstrated very clearly that our first-past-the-post system does not represent our votes very well at all. The Green Party with 6.5% of the votes won 3 seats whereas the Bloc with 7.7% of the vote has 32 seats.

To express your support for fair voting, sign this one calling for a National Citizen Assembly on Electoral Reform.
